So instead of braids, the text now says plaits. It's a fun story. I love this book, and everything else by this author. Instead of fries, the text says chips. My toddler LOVES to read it. We first checked it out from the library and renewed it the maximum times, so after we returned it I ordered the board book version from Amazon. And much to my happiness, it was a UK version.
We bought this while in London as a gift for our son, and it is so cute. This is by far our sons favorite book. It holds his interest well and he requests it nightly. The length is perfect for our 3 1/2 year old. In fact, this is our favorite book to read our son. The pictures are great and the text is even better.
It is about a friendly witch that has a knack for losing things. Her old broom was a junker and this broom is a Limo of Brooms. From an educators point of view. It is a must read for October. My kids love the Halloween story, Room on The Broom. Great for ages 3 to 9. The witch then does a spell that makes a new broom.
In return for finding what she has lost, the witch always lets the finder hop on for a ride on her broom. If you are a teacher or a parent you have room on your bookshelf for Room on the Broom. If you are a teacher be sure to google: "Room on the Broom Lessons" and "Room on the Broom Coloring" and "Room on the Broom Teaching Heart" for lessons and coloring sheets to match this story. From a parents prospective, I love how this book teaches that acts of kindness only do you good. It is a great story for retelling too.
It is their favorite (ages 3 and 7). this book is awesome: it has lots of rhyming and lots of repetition. Luckily with the help of her friends she is saved from the Dragon. Still she always finds what she has lost with a help from a friend. Towards the end of the story the witches broom breaks and she finds herself facing off with a Dragon.
If I were a writer of children's books, this would be the model I would emulate. Axel Scheffler's artwork, as usual, is vibrant and gorgeous and Donaldson's gift for rhythm and rhyme is unparalleled in my opinion (and I own hundreds of children's books). This is a great little story about mutual appreciation, and at least for now, this is number one on my son's bookshelf. Up until now, my favorite books to read my young child were Julia Donaldson's The Gruffalo and Karma Wilson's Bear books, and while those books are still fantastic, Room on the Broom is superb. Marvelous. However, on the first run, he was captivated by this book, and so was I. Typically, when I read a new book, my son shows little interest, as he likes the repetition of familiarity. So much so, that I read it immediately once more.
No drooling in my edition. My version has the phrasing something like "just once I'll have witch without fries'. I think I like this version better anyway. The story basically has one character after another hopping on to the broom until there are so many, it breaks and down they come. Same author as the Gruffalo. The book has wonderful rhyming and excellent pictures as well.
